RevGo, I wish I understood what you meant by your post. "Not as nice as their GP' ????? It is hard to find a suitable plane for a 170R. There are a few out there. But, not a lot. I have tried many options. They all have their merits and disadvantages. 170R is a great sounding/running motor. Not so good power to weight ratio though. No airplane lasts for ever. I can say that I am excited to fly the 170R in the Gee Bee regardless of the results. The motor will survive.
