RE: Scale Magazine?
I subscribe to Flying Models magazine. It is not strictly scale but is the best US model airplane magazine in print ( I think at least ). It covers RC, control line, and free flight, scale and sport. I like it because I fly RC and free flight scale and there is always some scale article on there on one or the other. It has some advertising but the ads are for smaller cottage industries with interesting hard to find stuff. Pick it up at the news stand and give it a try. I bet you will like it.
As far as strictly scale I have to vote for the UK Flying Scale Models. The UK puts out lots of good modeling publications. There are a couple dedicated to plastic airplane models that have lots of good scale documentation material. I can get FSM at Al's Hobby Shop in Elmhurst Illinois. Al's is also a pretty darn good shop with lots of inventory and people who know the hobby. Drop in if you are in the neighborhood.
Unfortunately I live in central Illinois and only get to Al's a couple of time a year when visiting family.
