Pezzer, I think that I know what you are talking about. The elevator push and pull rod, right? So this rod should be light and rigid enough to get the elevator halves to center easilly. The weight of it, if it was really heavy, would cause the elevetor to go down I suppose (like you said). Maybe check to see if you are centering well by ensuring that the rods that go through the fuselage are not touching the fiberglass body at any time. Check for binding in your elevator hinges too... use LOW rates or a considerable amount of exponentials.
