I believe the invasion stripes are also incorrect. I don't think the Tuskeegee group flew
over Normandy. That been said, I'm sure that H9 chose the color scheme for looks and
nothing else.
I believe you are correct. I have been unable to find any reference in pictures or literature that shows the 332 FG aircraft with invasion stripes. The Tuskegee Airmen first flew out of North africa, and then several different bases in Italy for the remainder of the war. Most of their action was over the Mediterrainian, Greece, and the Baltic States (Czechoslovakia, Albania, etc), and the escort of heavy bombers from Italy into Germany. The 332 was part of the 12th AF originally and then transferred to the 15th AF. They did fly over Normandy on some missions, but I can't find details. The dates of service would indicate that their (332) missions into Europe were well after the Invasion itself (late 1944 and into 1945), and the order for invasion stripes to be painted on aircraft for the invasion was made 5 June 1944, the day before the invasion, and there was a followup order later in the summer of 1944 for the stripes to be removed from the aircraft that had them. The Normandy Invasion was supported by aircraft of the 8th AF, and the order to paint the stripes was issued from 8th AF HQ.

So........whether it was H-9's decision to glop a bunch of inaccurate and disparate markings on its new ARF, or somebody over in Asia who doesn't know diddly about the why's and wherefores of these markings, the stripes and the red tails don't go together. I do wish that companies who market "scale" models would at least try to make them historically accurate with their markings. For those who aren't into history as much as I, it leads to erroneous assumptions and knowledge of who, what, when, and where, and does no service or honor to the ones who were actually there.

I think that when I build my SPAD XIII, I'll put invasion stripes on it. Hey, it'll be just as accurate
