Default RE: Evolution 58gx2

I have this engine on my Aeroworks Yak 54 with an 85-inch wingspan. The plane has a ready-to-fly weight of around 20 lbs and this engine is a PERFECT match for a plane this size. It delivers loads of power and has the ability to launch out of a hover with authority. I can't imagine running a standard 50cc engine on a plane this size; it would be way underpowered for my taste. In my opinion, any plane within the 18-22 lb. range, which is basically the gap between a 50cc and 80cc airplane, would be a perfect fit for the 58GX2. I'm swinging a 24x10 prop on a standard Pitts muffler with excellent performance, although this engine has the potential to really come alive with a canister system.

BUT, I've just looked into the Lanier Edge and it looks like this is designed as an 80cc plane. In that case, the 58GX2 would probably be too underpowered on a kit this size. Start looking into the Evolution 80GX or DA-85. The 80GX only costs $80 more than the 58GX2, but you'll get MUCH better performance on the Lanier.
