Sorry for the panic guys :)
I figured it out! I downloaded the troubleshooting section, and the diagram from the website. Then I sat down and dusted off my foggy memories of electronics, and traced out the circuit board. Here's the deal:
It appears from the diagram that they sent that the coil gets hooked in with the battery wires. This diagram was kind of funky, and had some hand scribbled notes on it. The circuit board has two sets of wire coming out of it; a set of three with a white wire, and a set of two with only black and white. This, and the vagueness of the drawing make it seem like you hook the coil into one of these sets of wires. NO, not so. You have to solder another set of wires into the circuit board to go to the coil. These wires go on either side of the big capacitor. The one near the outside edge of the board goes to the negative side of the coil, and the one on the other side of the capacitor that is inboard of the edge goes to the positive. Of the wires that come preinstalled, the three wire set goes to the sensor, and the two wire set goes to the battery.
Anyway, got it all hooked up and it works great. If you see this Zagnut, you were correct; my original coil that was on the engine seems to work fine with this system. Thanks!
Hope this helps if anyone else runs across this problem.
Take care,
