Default Deere S1400 wacker engine

Driving home from work Friday, I almost drove past a trash can with a John Deere Weed Wacker leaning against it, but the RC gods were watching our for me and I snagged it. It’s an S1400, 30cc.

I removed the case and found a nice flat backed engine, side carb and exhaust.

It’s a Deere/Homelite engine. The part number appears to be UT28810. There is another reference number “2HCPS 0304AA” and possibly a date code 0502.

I have not tried to start it yet, but it looks like the muffler got loose and they could not figure out how to remove the case. That took me a while, but a #20 Torx driver and the rope stuffed in the spark plug trick to lock up the engine got the shaft drive part off, so I could get the front of the case off.

I took the backplate off and the inside of the crankcase looks really nice and clean; beefy conrod!

So, is this a good one; or a heavy underpowere loser? <grin>

BTW - with the case off, but the fuel tank and ignition, etc. intact, it weighs 4.75 pounds and I can see a lot of Aluminum I can remove.

Thanks in advance,
