Default RE: SIG Piper Cub build

I started mine in 2002 - thinking to build it and use it as a trainer - ha ha. I did have a lay off of 18monthes or so to build a house and help my wife have a baby, then I built a four star and now I am at the point of covering the cub. Mounted the servo control rods last night.

The build can be quite tricky in places, not because it is complicated but because the instructions are very basic, also it was my first build. I found getting the wingtips install in the correct position difficult and had to consult lots of photos of full size cubs to get it (hopefully) right.

I had originally built the wing as per plans with bell cranks and a single servo but have subsequently built a servo into each wing.

The fuselage takes a lot of time. Framing up is straightforward, if time consuming - all those little multiangled truss joints. The nose requires some thought and before joining the sides you should consider your engine as a longer engine than indicated on the plane will make your cowl stick out farther than full scale. I have an OS 40FS and had to shorten the nose by almost 20mm to keep the prop in the indicated position.

The biggest difficulty is the mounting of the horizontal stab. This kit emulates the full size with a gap between the fuselage side and the stab. I chose to fit the mounting dowel to one half of the stab with a view to epoxying into the fuselage after covering the fuselage sides but before covering the fuselage top. This will be in the next few days so I will let you know if this was a good idea or not.

Photo's showing progress to date. next step covering
