Don't get me wrong. I agree what 1549's crew accomplished was quite impressive. Having said that I feel that there were a lot of things that were working in their favor. The incident happened during the day, in VFR conditions with a huge (albiet very wet)runway right in front of them. A lot of the decisions that had to be made were pretty much set in stone instantly because of their altitude(or lack of). Most pilots would have opted for the river as well.. Beats the heck out of slamming into buildings! Basically all they had to do was establish the aircraft's best glide speed, aim for the water, mush it in and hope for the best! What happened that day in the Hudson was as much luck, as skill..
Oh and by the way. I'll bet the L/D of the Cessna 402 and the Boeing 757 are fairly comparable.
