BTW,

There was a guy in our club that charged something like $20 an hour to teach how to fly. True, no one else charges anything.
Well, I saw officers from my club yell what sounded like profanity to this guy becaue he charged for flight lessons.
Turned out, this guy was Paul Metz........TEST PILOT OF THE F-22 RAPTOR. I thought that he was charging a very reasonable fee, and he had customers willing to pay it.
The willingness of people to pay the fee, and the fact that you think it's a reaonable amount, may be irrelevant if the club and/or landowner specifically forbids such activity.

I was an officer of a club where this very topic came up a number of times, and where the club had to forbid paid flight instruction on site because it is a condition of their lease that no 'for profit activity' take place on club premises - and the landowner reminded us of that condition periodically. Us allowing some guy to make a few bucks on the side could have risked losing the field for hundreds of other members. Even activities such as a swap-meet can get some clubs in hot water with their landowner.

Now, I don't know the conditions of the specific club that you mention, so their case could very well be different - I'm simply pointing out that there can often be much more to the issue than you are seeing at the surface.
