I actually wrapped my tube in clear packing tape to built up the diameter and fix the sloppy fit. Mine wasn't oval, but did have quite a bit of play in the fuse portion as well as the wings. I was going to suggest buying a wooden dowel. I dont think the weight would cause a huge issue since it pretty close to the CG.
