Default RE: BIG LAMA

Hey Peter,

Very windy here, 20-30 MPH. Everything is grounded for a while, except indoors. The “BOL” will only hover in my den. I could try to do circuits but it’s tight.

It’s a lot of fun when the guys from work get involved in something. We did that in the early 90’s, about 5 or 6 of us got in to planes, then helis. In ’95 there were three of us left who went out to fly 32-sized nitro helis, but it eventually fizzled out. I could hover well, do tail-in circles, and finally some forward flight but never a full circle in front of me. When it came toward me I had to spin the tail out the other way. The Dauphin finally got me to that point and now I can do everything but inverted!

But in the old days (1988 to about ’92) we had a good handful of guys together and the field would fill up with planes of all sizes every weekend. I still keep all my videotapes and remember the good old days of R/C. I have 13 planes left and still get out in spring and summer. Last year I got my first brushless and really love it. It runs on 14 cells of 3000 mAH NiMH’s. Being a 4-channel it can do aerobatics for 11 minute flights, but it’s also light enough to thermal and I’ve had flights well over a half hour if I conserve power.

How’s that Feral Beast? Does it have 180 or 370 motors? They sell them at xheli.com for $79. Is is any different in flight from a Dauphin?

Don’t know about the Walkera blades. I got the ones you recommended for the Dauphin, they just came yesterday and since I just got the stock blades balanced, I’m going to get some mileage out of them first!

3-channel “toys…” are they maneuverable? I’d like something simple for sittin on the sofa watching TV and buzzing the dogs. I have a Winner 3-channel but cannot get it to go forward.

Here’s my 3-channel Senriorita, with O.S. .25 FP engine. I would love to build ailerons into the wing. A friend did that and it flies great. This is a lightweight (S-L-O-W) built-up stick construction frame frame that’s gentle as it gets. 64 inch wingspan and if memory serves, 600 square inches of wing area. This one is now 19 years old and still going. Monokote covering.
