RE: Gas Engine for 1/4 Scale Balsa USA J-3 Cub
I ordered my RCS SV26 today. So I am locked in on the price anyway. Apparently there are a lot of people who've already ordered this engine, and it may be some time before I move up on the list to get one.
I'm going to touch base again with all the other items needed for this engine to operate.
As I understand it, I need a 6v battery pack for the ignition. Will a 2000mAh NiMH receiver pack work? If so, will the JST plug work, or do I need to purchase another type of plug?
Fuel line is also required. I've heard Tygon mentioned, which is available from Tower Hobbies. What diameter do I need? for this engine?
Will I need and ON/OFF switch, and if so, which one do you recommend? I know I will use an ON/OFF switch with my receiver pack that powers the receiver and servos. I hope a 4-cell 1500mAh NiCAD pack that I have will be adequate.
I keep hearing about fuel dots. I think they are used for refueling. I would like to know how many I need and what brand is the best for ease of use.
I know that I will need a fueling station, which includes the gas can/tubing/hand pump. Which ones do you prefer? How big a can do I need? One or 2.5 gallons? I only plan on flying about 20 to 30 minutes once or twice a week with this airplane.
Next are fuel filters. I'm not too up on these. Not sure where they are installed, and which type or how many I need.
How many spare spark plugs do I need. I'm not sure if a spark plug wrench comes with this engine, so I guess I will need a spark plug wrench.
I've heard of engine kill switches. Do I need one of these? Is this the second switch I see on gas powered airplanes beside the receiver switch?
GADs, I don't know what else I need to ask. I am down to needed specifics so I can figure out what type, size, quantiy and etc. I need to order.
I found my building board, I do believe. I spied them down at Home Depot. The look very flat and 6 feet long by 20 inches wide. Could get one a tad wider if needed. I will laminate a type of board that I used to use to build my freeflight models. It allows pins to be stuck in it up to 1/2 inch which should be more than adequate. I need the building board because only one wing is partially framed out. I still need to put the tip, LE and TE on and built the other completely.
The main thing I would like, if you don't mind is to let me know what you like using for what I've listed above, so I get an idea what actually works well. I am trying to avoic spending money that will get thrown away due to finding out the items purchased didn't fit the requirement.
Thanks a lot for all your help. This rookie really appreciates it. Caley
