Default RE: THE LOUNGE 3...

So...I started rebuilding the diffs in my E-Savage (wanted to put some shims on the inside). Took apart the front one, cleaned the old grease out (looked like some sort of red colored stuff), replaced with the Sears white automotive grease. Shimmed the inside, checked for binding, and rebuilt.

But then...I got the rear diff out, started to take apart, and...2 of the 4 screws holding the diff together are stripped. Almost completely. I tried like crazy to get them out, but no go. Tried a tiny flathead I had, smaller phillips, bigger phillips, phillps of all shapes/types. No deal.

So now I feel like I'm hosed. Normally one can get a dremel tool and make a slot in the screw head, and use a flathead to get it out. In this case, the 2 tiny screws are nearly flush with the diff gear - no room to grind it.

Major bummer.

Pics of the greasy diff fun, just because.
