Why not try calling people instead of e-mailing? Many clubs are run by folks who may not check their mail often, and who knows if your message ended up in someone's junk mail?
Yep, often older guys who just don't spend much time on a computer. I'd first join the AMA then stop by some of the fields you are interested in, maybe even bring an airplane to fly. Get to know the people at each one and make your decision. Then go to a meeting and join.
