This thread has served no purpose other than to let the usual suspects alternately rant and engage in sophomoric humor concerning a no cost benefit of AMA membership.
Here is all I can manage to come up with. Either it is a fact that $18.00 of your membership is for Model Aviation or the AMA is knowingly printing an incorrect legal statement.
IMHO $18.00 of my dues goes to Model Aviation.

Stick wasnt complaining about the cost (or lack there of),
he said he would still pay $58 but just not have HQ waste AMA money sending something he doesnt like,
so I dont know why you are bringing up the cost/freeness of it.
