Default Burned it Up!!

OK..I confess. I skipped the directions and held the hammer down until a nice puff of grey smoke came out of my motor. Of course, I never should have been flying my E-Flite Funtana foamie on such a windy day, the full throttle was almost necessary to keep it under control. That said. I learned the hard way about exceeding burst times on the motor. I think it gets worse for me though, and here's where my NEWBIE electric questions come in:

Plane: E-Flite Funtana Foamie

Motor: E-flite 300 brushless outrunner with 8x4 prop (couldn't find recommended 8x3.8)

Specs
Type:Brushless outrunner
Size:180/280 replacement
Bearings or Bushings:Ball bearings
Recommended Prop Range:6x5 to 8x3.8 (3-cells) or up to 10x3.8 (2-cells) - Slow Flyer
Voltage:7.2–11.1V
RPM/Volt (Kv):1380
Resistance (Ri):.33 ohms
Idle Current (Io):.40A @ 8V
Continuous Current:7A
Maximum Burst Current:9A (15 sec)
Cells:6–8 Ni-Cd/Ni-MH or 2–3S Li-Po
Speed Control:8–10A brushless
Weight:24 g (.8 oz)
Overall Diameter:28mm (1.10 in)
Shaft Diameter:3.17mm (1/8 in)
Overall Length:22mm (.90 in)

ESC: E-Flite 10amp Pro Brushless
Battery: 800 Mah 11.1V 3 Cell Lipo

Question: The motor was clearly fried beyond repair. Everything else looked good, so I purchased an Electrifly Great Planes Rimfire 300 28-22-1380 Outrunner Brushless with the following specs, plugged it in, started up my DX7, plugged in my battery, and had flap control, but no beeps from the ESC, and no throttle control! Shouldn't the E-flite 10amp ESC be compatible with the new motor, or did I burn up the ESC too? (reluctantly awaiting replys )

SPECS: Motor Diameter: 1.1" (28mm)
Motor Length: .87" (22mm)
Shaft Diameter: .12" (3mm)
Shaft Length: .47" (12mm)
kV Rating: 1380 rpm/V
Weight: .95oz (27g)
Input Voltage: 7.4-11.1V
Max. Constant Current: 9A
Max Surge Current: 13.5A
Max Constant Watts: 100W
No Load Current: .4A
Suggested Prop Sizes: 8x3.5S - 10x3.8S
