RE: Need Advice
I have a 5B. It now appears it was the novelty that got me to buy it. It works well. Every time. Nothing breaks (although if you push it, things could). But I miss the tinkering of a nitro. To me, the 5B is just a bit more interesting than electric, but way down from nitro. But that's me....I like to tinker more than drive.
The problem is, getting the money to buy one isn't quite enough. Regardless of the fact nothing breaks (well, not quite true....my CB broke) there is a vast array of hop-ups available for the 5B. Some are improved parts. Others are bling. But I guarentee, you will want some of them. A stock part breaks, and you'll want to upgrade. Radio glitches and you'll want a Ghz unit. You want to wheelie, so a bigger engine appears attractive. The quality is high to begin with, but it's a trap.....a money-pit trap. And in that way, no different than many RCs, EXCEPT for the total cost being very high.
If you are on a budget, my advice is to limit yourself to one RC. If that's the 5B, then go for it. But trying to maintain a stable of vehicles these days is expensive, especially as the desire for upgrades and improvements is addictive.
If you can find a used SS unit, available from a REPUTABLE source, that may be your best bet. You'll start off with something used, but at least it already has many of the upgrades installed.
