RE: Black Magic VF3 Build Thread
Just wanted to post some comments about flying my new VF3 in it's first contest at Ocala Fl.
I was amazed at how well I was able to handle the strong crosswinds (like 20+) and keep the plane on the poles. I was just basically pushing against the rudder springs, all the correction needed to fight the crosswind. It's amazing as I am flying without any mix and the yaw is so pure. With the anhedrals my plane has little buffeting from the gusty winds, seemed to really lock and actually felt like there was a lot less wind, it required very little work to keep the plane on the poles.
Compared to the V2 - the VF3 really lessens the pilot's workload - very stable and flies with authority in high crosswinds. The VF3 just makes it easy to look good out there.
Also the YS 170 - well it's freakin amazing. I was doing crazy stuff like 800 ft square loops and outside loops in these winds, the outside loop is super easy with the big motor and I was able to fly really huge maneuvers well in the high winds.
