It's a locked diff. straight to the axle... no independence there... there's the pinion (not shown), and one extra gear that's located in the top piece that transfers the power from the pinion (not shown) to what you see pictured. It has acceptor teeth on one side for the pinion and is fused to another gear that goes down into the setup pictured. So, if counting, there are 4 gears (5 if you count the fused ones separately) and 1 pinion.
