While I've had good luck with ebay so far, we keep a dedicated bank account (with only a few hundered dollars) for paypal and other times when we need to allow a buisness to draw funds from our account, as opposed to us providing the funds to them. I also choose to change the Paypal payment option to a credit card, for additional protection, when I buy higher priced items.
