Transfer ports from the crank case to the cylinder would be 90* off. It wouldn't run. No way to transfer fuel from the case to the combustion chamber.

I don't know this particular engine inside. Not many engines have transfer ports in the piston. Does the DL piston have holes in the skirt to aid transfer at BDC?
