Default RE: How do you create battle damage to Tigers Fenders/mudguards ?

Damage is both a science and an art.

First find pictures of the damage you would like to replicate. I start by opening up thearea between the fender sections with a cut off wheel.

Next I sand or grind down the back side of the fenders to 1. make then more scale and 2 the thinner plastic is much easier to damage.

I then use my solder iron to heat the areas I want to make a bend careful to to heat the surrounding plastic.

For dents I use a flat tip screw driver to push the soft plastic up or down. For rounded damage I use a dowel to move the plastic. For extreme beds use a pair of flat jawed pliers to manipulate the plastic into folds dents. etc.

The guards on the TIGER 1 were sheet metal and many a round penetrated these. Once again to keep it scale grind a thin area where you want your hole. Then pick an angle that would make sence. Few Tigers were shot from the high ground. Make your holes as if they were shot from the ground and from ahead or behind. Then use a small bit to make your damage hole. Small at first then look and see if you want it bigger. It is easier to make it bigger than to fill it back in.

Then you can paint it a dull steel, and surround your "hit" with a light soot. In an etreme hit paint a light spide effect of soot or black.

Have fun!!!
