I would think if you used a white base, the orange would be slightly "brighter" than with a gray base and would depend on the exact shade you are trying to achieve in the end. Any idea what they use as a base on the full scale?

Personally, I'd probably go gray to keep the other colors on the scheme in check.

Just my personal opinion though.
