I did both my ultimate and my suk deck the way the plans show, and with a little time and patientce you can make the gap invisable under the covering. all though You could try to shave a few thousanths off the bulk heads, put a back-up stringer on the fuse top and edge glue it, choice is yours either way will be plenty strong and look fine!
