The wing hold down is a hunk of wood you install to prevent the bolts from boring through the soft wood of the wing.
Installed properly there is very little chance of it breaking with any ease. Typically the fuselage area where the blind nuts hold the bolts, tend to go first.
I've had several students show up with these planes at the field, and they have flown well and w/o any problems what-so-ever.
