The sand scorcher would definitely be a fun RC to have, but I thought maybe you'd found some fool selling the OG version for cheap! If that'd been the case I'd have said go with the Scorcher for sure!!!!!! However, since it's the new one you're talking about, you could go either way, it just depends on what you want more. I'm guessing the new model Scorcher should be identical, or real close, to the old one. Tamiya usually doesn't change anything noticeable on the re-re models.
