Is the sting broke, cause you and re-string it with some type of string. </p>

If i know right there is a shaft that goes into the motor, and there is like a hex on the end that the pull start turns right? If so then you could for the time being get a socket and put it on a drill and drill start it. I did that witha  small block that had the one way being on the outside, it worked great.</p>
