The 3 in 1's are completely compatable up or down between the v2 / v3 revisions (v1 was NiMH) The LiPo protection module (LPM) is not required for flight. However if you are not able to monitor recharge current to determine appropriate flight times, thenthe LPMcan help extend battery life by preventing over-discharge.
