I always trim at1/2 throttle or a tad less....trim the surface that is off the most first.......trim so that with no wind the airplane flies straight and level with thumbs off....
there are lots of ways to check CG, the best being airborn.....but as this is a beginners forum check with your instructor.....
remember that a nose heavy airplane will fly crappy but a tail heavy airplane flys only once
