My beginner electric was/is the T-28 Trojan. This was after learning on a NexStar nitro though. Since you mentioned the Sim, download one from the Knifeedge site and see what you think. They're fun to fly through intermediate level and forgiving, but a handful to land in wind over 5-6 like most foamies.
