are they repairable? I tried to splice the cable and twist the wires together but nothing happened except my other servo was over heating.

Metallover is not quite reffering to the traxxas diffs. On some of the nicer diffs theres a screw (like the one you use to tie down the pinion) that plugs a hole in the diff cup. Through this hole you can fill oil into the diff pretty neat.
Don't the traxxas diffs have something like that too?
