Kyle ~

Like Crash suggested, stay away from the Align 430XL. Not worth it... For a dollar less you can just get a Scorpion ! Or the Danlion and beer money to spare... The Align motors run to warm, and there not even rebuildable. The XL is the one used stock in the Trex 450 SE V2.

Like Crash, I'am a big fan of the Rhino pinions. Most vendors I've seen carry them. The brass ones strip out in time, and after using the Rhino pinions I'll never look back. Its good to have a selection of 11/13/15 tooth ranges in my experiences.

My stock Trex 450 SA motor was the 430L and it was a 3550 kv motor, and it did great for sport flying, just couldn't take the demand of the more straining moves, as that's what you hear coming from the motor.... Strain... I call it the Align Whine since they squeel like a little skool gurl.... LMAO.... But I don't think you could ever kill the motor, it seems very durable in the abuse I tortured it through.

I then went to try a Common-Sense RC 3500 KV motor... They said 13t to 15t, for either mild or wild... Knowing me of course, I always just ran the 15t and used the Castle Creations 45 amp esc with it. With the Darkhorse calculator I was around 3749 rpms for my headspeed at 85% effeciency. I always ran in idle 2 100% T-curve across... Plently of power, but very short flight times of only 3 1/2 - 4 minutes. The components never did get very hot but ran a healthy warm feeling.

Here's an older video with that motor when I was first getting used to my turns... The motor would make the 450 scream if it wanted, and still offered plenty of torque throughout its range as I then started doing loops later on... At the 5:57 - 6:07 mark in the video I had it full collective, and it becomes kinda a blur in the video, but I had to see what it felt like back then flying in such a big area.

Watch in high quality though (You-Tube)

A 12t with that Danlion 3500kv motor would probably be perfect for you I'am guessing. As you venture further, a more powerful motor pushing more than 19 amps may be prefered depending on the pilot. I think that Common-Sense motor pushed 40 amps I believe... Not sure on the watts. My Scorpion -6motor throws 52 amps and 525 watts. Everything runs more effecient with the set-up I have now than I did with the set-up I had in the video. Eaterofdog over at the EXI thread has the -8 Scorpion in his EXI and has loved it. I was always jealous, but now I feel better getting the -6 Scorpion.
