RE: PzKpfw IV Ausf D (Back Dated)
philipat,
I think time is all relative. The guys in my small scale club used to give me a ration of sh_t about the speed at which I would build kits. They would always tease me and ask, if i had built the model on the tank of my motorcycle while sitting at the stop light on the way to the club meeting. I've have build some small scale stuff in a matter of two or three evenings, so I guess it was well deserved razzing.
Most of my 1/16th scale tank refurbish projects usually take about 3-5 weeks to complete, and full builds are usually a couple of months. But that's all dependent on the amount of detailing and modifications. I believed this one might take up to 6 months to complete, but once I jumped in and got started, I cut that time-line in half, well at least in my head.
For me the most important thing is to do it right, and enjoy what I'm doing. Plus once I get started on a project I try very hard to work on it every single day so that I don't lose momentum. The only problem is that I usually have at least one (and sometime 2 or 3) RC tank projects going as well as some small scale stuff, plus I write articles for a couple of websites and a couple of magazines. Basically means I spend 20-25 hours a week at my bench. But I find it therapeutic and I gladly trade sleep for modeling time, I know it ain't healthy but hey so many modeling projects and so little time.
