I believe temperature difference was negligible. The Hobbywing ESC actually has similar specs in some areas and better specs in others. For a start it's rated realistically at 150 amps, the mosfets used are comparable in quality to the MMM and are underrated by quite a bit.

Not saying anything bad about the MMM, it's a quality piece, but even if it does run cooler if you have to gear it higher to get the performance back then that is going to negate it.

Oh, and the mamba max also delivers power better than the MMM on 4s.

As for it being proven, they've had long enough to sort it. Third incarnation innit?
