Calling British 3D Pilots
Luke well put.
Nathan, dont get upset. I did make comparisons to Madness, Flip Hype etc. Never mentioned things like cougar and limbo.
I draw the distinction as follows, and the american use of these definitions is definately different to british.
Fun Fly..... high wing planes like cougar and limbo and magic, but a generic term that for me covers most of them in general, but traditionally your climb and glide/touch and go type..
3D Fun fly.. higher standard fun fly with more aerobatic lines.... but a fun fly wing section and huge control surfaces nonetheless. Things like 3styla, madness bla bla bla.
You could argue then that there is a Pro standard 3D Fun Fly... perhaps definable by the big player pilots that design or fly them.... matbe the flip falls into this category ... but its really a sub cat of 3D Fun Fly.
The there is Aerobatic. Derived from F3A anything that does aerobatic manouvres and flies at reasonable speed.
3D Aerobatic, for my money, is a derivative of a aerobatic or f3a type plane (not necessarily 2m) which has undergone subtle wing section alteration, reduced weight, and big surfaces, so it flies like a pattern plane and also does 3D type stuff. Perfect example is the 2M majestic. Not the Maj 1400. This I see purely as a aerobatic model. In the US they call this Artistic Aero I believe.
I see the 3Styla fitting into the 3D Fun Fly camp, laong with Madness etc.
I see Capiche fitting into the 3D Aero camp, like the Freestyle model (which Paul also flies), Synergy 903D and some others that dnt immediately come to mind.
I guess in my mind, a model called a 3D Aerobatic model must be capable of effective and comaprable F3A performance, at f3a speed. These planes traditionally do not prop hang as well as fun flys or 3D fun flys.
Hey Sarnie, dont know what I said that was funny.
But I like your tag line. Maybe I should change mine to the same, but add wine into the line too ! LOL. Very funny, made me laugh!
