You can also get some sort of desicant to absorb moisture. I believe that this is available in small pouches and/or impregnated in paper. You might try something like that along with a few drops of oil and storage in a dray place.

I personally wouldn't submerge them in anything. It might do the job but it would be unnecessary and just create a bigger mess to clean up down the road.
