Help with my Sig Something Wild, er, I mean Sig Something Extra
Been flying my Nexstar all summer and getting pretty comfortable with it. This spring I built a sse kit. Heard they were one of the easier kits so figured it would be a good first build. A couple weeks ago I just finished up all the little odd and end jobs on it. Got home last evening early enough to fly, so loaded up the Nexstar and last minute decided to throw the sse in too. The plan was to just taxi the sse around a while and get used to the ground handling then fly the Nexstar. But plans are meant to be broken, right. Well after some adjustments on the tailwheel, I'll put an after market wheel on my next kit, she was tracking pretty staight up and down the runway. One run I gave her a little more throttle, had the tail in the air, and just couldn't resist. A little up elevator and up in the air she went. Thats when my little Sig Somehting Extra became the Something Wild. The airleons where so sensitive that it seemed like just breathing on the sticks would send it into a bank. Well, managed to keep her in the air for about 45 seconds. She was banking back and forth so much that I lost my bearings with it. At the end I couldn't tell if it was right side up, up side down, inside out, or outside in. One lesson learned, on the next build use contrasting colors on the top and bottom. The plane finally flew behind a hill, came back into view once, then back behind the hill. Decided to just cut throttle hold a little up elevator and hope for the best.
As I walked over the hill to find the plane and pick up my pieces, I spotted the tail sticking up in the air out in the middle of a bean field. She was nosed in all the way to the carburator, pulled it out and almost no damage. Just a broken prop, bent wing tube from the kinetic energy of the sudden stop and a little piece of sheeting under the cheeks. When I was setting up the throws the book gave two different ones. Of course I went with the smallest ones, but even they seemed like a lot compared to my Nexstar. So how do I tame this puppy down. I could adjust the pushrods for a smaller throw. I've got a computer tx that I have been flying my Nexstar with a little. Mainly just use the clock on it to tell me when the fuel is about empty. It has exponential which sounds like it makes the sticks a little less sensitive close to nuetral or it has dual rates. I don't need these big throws right now so what would be the best way to make this plane a little easier to handle
