There are two schools on expo vs dual/triple rates.

The comments from Jet are valid for the dual rates side. However, I have heard here and at the field many comment that Expo is better than dual rates. Why? Because if you get into trouble, you have full throw available. You do not drive a car with a brick under the brake and gas is the agruement for using expo instead.

Personally, I think a little of each is good. But starting out, there is nothing wrong with expo to get used to things and then backing off to a lower (but ot zero) setting to allow for precision adjustments.
