Not at all, get your folks to take you down to meet the people & take a camera so you can take photos of the different setups & designs so that you can have a reference guide to when you get around to building you own. Talking to fellow boaters is the best way to learn, & you will learn a lot more & learn quicker by talking to people in person & asking questions than you will by reading through the forums.
