If I can chime in, Rustoleum is somewhat glow fuel resistant but not fuel proof.

My sympathy is extended..I've made that mistake. Luckily only with a few props, not a plane.

The reason your rag is not full of paint is that the clear is coming off and gooing up. Inevitably you'll break through to the color and make quite a mess.

If it's not too late to still look good, you may want to try a few coats of clear polyurethane over it to seal the surface.
