Default Setting up dual rates for pattern flying

I need to ask something about setting up my plane. I use a JR 9X, which is the same as the 9303. When I fly 3D planes, I use 3 conditions. 1 - low rates, 2 - medium rates and 3 - as much as I can get rates. Now that I am learning to fly pattern I am keen to ask a few things. I also would like to keep things simple so I can learn to fly properly first. I am not too concerned about a different condition for spins & snaps yet (might I be wrong to assume this?).

i. my Sebart Ms Wind 50 manual states that deflection is 40* then Seb uses conditions for 3 different levels of rates. I am curious if I were to set Condition 1 with dual rate set at say 20% or 30%, would it not mean that the 'resolution' of the control will not be that fine? Am I correct to say this?

ii. as I want to keep it simple, would it not be better to just keep 2 rates with the mechanical adjustment being made to ensure that the deflection is not too much when you are in high rates?

Hope that someone may assist me ... thanks!
