It will probably fly fine on 10s and a 17x8, I wouldn't start with adjusting throttle curves etc.
The weight wouldn't be too much of an issue, it's not a 2m bird so you'll keep it below the 5kg mark.. and in windy conditions, the extra weight might even be an advantage.
Also, you could use packs with lesser capacity, like a 3500mAh 10s pack.
