I think a BME 44 would be way to much engine for a plane of this size and not sure the airframe would hold up, with out some major reinforcement of the firewall. Remember that this plane is just a ''development of the Aeronca Champ'' with a symmetrical wing that has been Clipped.

Momoore67 has a good point about overpowering these Cub variants. Decathlons fly on the wing, using rudder to steer and the ailerons to control banking. There is no magic involved. Too much engine is only going to make it seem a little tail heavy, as the added power really doesn't give much of an advantage with that huge surfboard wing.
