No one knows if/when the 72 mhz band will be taken away from the RC community. Most do believe it will happen though. When it is announced, it is likely that we will have a few years to get off. When "narrow band" was mandated I think there was a 10 year period where wide band transmitters were still legal to use.
My brother and I use a 9C (purchased new last fall after a transmitter failure) and we plan to use 72 until we are forced to change. We considered going 2.4 but decided against it, partly because of the price of additional receivers.
