Default RE: WACO YMF

Thanks, Neil, Thanks, John.

I'm going to have to evaluate what I have here and ultimately where I want to go with it. It's a nice looking Waco and it has some scale detailing. It's got the Pica UMF cowl, that could be changed, and I could do stitching work.

Many ways to go from there. Right now I think my biggest issues are that it needs wing-work to become flyable, and I'm going to rework ALL of the linkages in the whole plane, they do not pass muster with me. Also, NONE of the screws that held it together came with the plane. Maybe 5 or 6 screws showed up in a baggie.

I doubt that I will be able to find out from the builder what kind of paint was used on it, so I'm going to have to do some careful testing to find out what is compatible.

This is all fairly basic stuff, and that's what I am going to concentrate on for now. The wood wheel pants don't bother me if I can get them to stay on the plane, they look quite good. As long as they don't mess with the balance in the long run. Once I feel comfortable with its function being up to snuff, then I'll think about how far I want to go back into doing things like scale stitching, and for that matter IF those are things I want to do. If I find out she's not straight and will need some real surgery, then it might be more feasible during that process to add some detail prior to repainting.

Right now my priorities are going to be solid flight, good balance, good motor. Thinking about cutting a hatch under the nose to check out the gas tank.

Oh, by the way, I found a spring-loaded fueler on it, so it probably has never run quite right, Saitos suck air in through those, and it causes crappy transition and messes up either the low end or high end, depending on how somebody tried to tune it. This happens especially with the bigger ones, and this one is a Saito 150. I'll replace it with a solid-plug fuel dot.

I guess I'd better get going to work!
