Default Motor problem

Hi folks,

Some time ago I purchased this combo, and it worked quite well until I bent the motor shaft during a bad take off when the prop hit the ground:

As a replacement for the motor, I purchased this unit and changed the mounting set up to accomodate the new configuration (I kept the same ESC as above):

When I first tested the new motor, it would not turn smoothly and would only "twitch." While trying different things, I switched two of the motors leads around and everything started working just fine. I tried it a few times (on and off, etc.) and no problems, so I finished the installation without chaging the electrical set up. After everything was finished and the prop was on, I turned the motor on and the same twitch was back.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? Could there be some incompatibility between the motor and this ESC? If not, would this be typically caused by a faulty motor or a faulty ESC? Just trying to figure out where to go next. And by the way, I am using a 3S LiPo batter as the power source.

Thanks for the help.
