That is actually a good story! I know the older kids, mostly preteens and early teens, that come up, are interested in getting an RC like mine. I do tell them the costs, and they are taken aback at first, but I tell them that if they save up, and also work with their parents, they too can get a hobby grade RC. I also mention to them the local RC stores, depending on where I am at the moment, and encourage them to go and visit and browse the store one day, even if they arent going to buy anything just yet. That way, they can look and see for possible RCs to save up for and even talk to the clerks on what would be a decent ride, what parts to stock up on, how to tune, how to use the equipment (radio, glow plug igniter, use the batt charger, how to cycle batts, cut comms, lube bearings, etc).
I find the older kids (preteens and early teens) are the most serious about learning everything I can tell them about RCs. It is the younger ones that tend to be pestering and demanding that I do stupid and dangerous stuff with my RCs.

Also, when you go down to San Antonio, be prepared for some serious heat. When I was in Texas for the summer, it was desert hot, even hotter than Florida. But your training instructor (MTI) will take good care of you. The USAF is very serious about keeping the trainees from suffering heat exhaustion so do exactly what they say and stop all extraneous activity when your training instructor declares a black bulb condition. (They will tell you what all this stuff means.)
Anyway, keep a strong mind, dont let the yelling get to you, do what you are told, and most of all, Aim High!
