I have the samre charger and usually charge 6 cell 7.2 1600mah for my various 1 18 and 1 16 . I found that yes the batteries get hot when i charge them at 3.5 . They charged quick. However the batteries got real warm to the touch. I started charging at the 1 amp seting and it takes longer but my batteries charge good and dont get to hot
