Default RE: Props?

ORIGINAL: Jim Thomerson

I generally start out with an APC. Spending time prop testing, once you get to flying well enough that you can tell the difference, is very rewarding. I've been surprised at what works the best sometimes. I've transfered engine, fueltank, and prop to another airplane and found that the ''best' prop was no longer so.

OK OK so it's a 4 month old quote. Hey, I'm old too.

Way back when Knights were bold, and Ladies proud of it, and I was not so old, I did a lot of Pylon Racing. Back in those days before all these "security" bureaucracies were developed, we pilots could carry things with us to whittle props down to the right sizes, or so we thought right size. [:-] That was for those long lay-overs where a room, a TV, and a batch of fried chicken made for good times whittling props.

I remember whittling Rev-Up pylon props to have several exactly alike, or so I thought, and I was lucky if just one was good. Sometimes I was certain I had 2 or 3 exactly like a previous one and one was excellent and 2 were duds. I never found out the secrets of props that made so much difference between two so much alike.
